Good Shepherd Cork

Making Homes, Making Change

We are Good Shepherd Cork and we work with women and children who are homeless or vulnerable to homelessness. Our projects include Edel House emergency shelter, the only homeless shelter in Cork which can accommodate children; outreach services; support and advocacy; education and development; residential care for teenage girls and supported housing.

Thanks to the support of the Fund, our Making Homes, Making Change project will deliver a package of literacy and numeracy resources, lessons and mentoring to give women moving on from our homeless shelter, the financial capability, tools and skills necessary to successfully sustain their new tenancies.

The funding will allow us to deliver these courses and to recruit volunteer mentors to support women in sustaining tenancies and managing their finances as they move on to independent living. Every woman resident in Edel House (193 in 2016) will be offered a place and we estimate that at least 50% will take that place up.
